This committee helps the Membership Vice-Presidents recruit new members and holds Membership Orientations as needed throughout the year.  They also greet members at the Branch Membership Luncheons and distribute the name tags.

Calling Committee

The Calling Committee branch members who are responsible for portion of the AAUW membership to coordinate luncheon reservations for monthly meetings.  Once a member has confirmed her attendance, an email confirmation will be sent.  The chair of the Calling Committee receives the total number of reservations from the committee and informs the food service personnel at the meeting site to ensure the proper amount of food is served.

Public Policy, Legal Advocacy, Educational Opportunity & Fund Committee

AAUW strives to break through barriers to improve educational opportunities for women and girls through research, publications, leadership programs, and to ensure that women and girls have access to higher education and the opportunity to achieve excellence in professions of their choice. AAUW’s advocacy work builds upon responsible public participation at the local, state, national, and international levels. This committee presents local AAUW members updates to public policy via monthly newsletter and detailed presentation at the annual meeting.

EOF is a part of the national AAUW’s Action Funds and donations to it are 501c3 tax exempt.  Our Branch supports this fund through donations made at out April Annual meeting and from the Bridge Luncheon.  EOF provided $4.3M in funding for this year’s 278 members of AAUW’s 2012-2013 class of fellows and grantees.  We are a group of scholars, researchers and women working at the grassroots level to provide quality program experiences for girls and young women.  In 2011 our branch was proud to be a recipient of a two-year Community Action Grant to benefit our eSMART Camp.

Scholarship

The committee has established the categories of scholarships based on a desire to focus primarily on women entering college after an interruption in their education and secondarily on support of Millcreek High School and its mission of providing an education for non-traditional students.  Women entering or attending Dixie State College, who have experienced an interruption in their education will be awarded $1,000.  Millcreek High School graduating women planning to enter Dixie State College will be awarded $500. Recipients of these awards are introduced to the membership at the May luncheon meeting.

The sources of scholarship money are the Author’s Luncheon, the Bridge Luncheon and individual donations.

Garden Tour

SGB joins the Lady Lions, the Dixie Garden Club and the Utah Business Women to host the annual Garden Tour in Saint George.  Ten gardens are on display on the last Saturday in April and ticket sales benefit Dixie State College scholars.  SGB is responsible for helping solicit gardens, sell tickets and hostess at each garden. In addition, we participate in selecting scholars and hosting a tea for them.

Reality Store

The Reality Store is a program put on by AAUW in conjunction with Utah Business Women for our local ninth grade students. It provides the students with a unique opportunity to experience real life scenarios and learn about what it actually costs to live on their own. They are given a monthly income and must cover housing, transportation, clothing, childcare and all other family expenses. Students later submit essays on their experiences and the top six are awarded prizes.

Great Decisions

Great Decisions is a national civic-education program that is organized by the Foreign Policy Association. It provides a forum for thoughtful discussion and debate of the foreign policy challenges that we face today. The discussion group meets every second and fourth Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the St. George Library. A copy of the Great Decisions briefing book is on file at the Library’s Reference Desk.

Author’s Luncheon

Each Fall the Branch invites an author to present her written works to members and the community at large. The event includes a silent auction and an opportunity drawing for wonderful prizes donated by community businesses and supporters.  This is an important part of our fundraising efforts as proceeds benefit our scholarship programs.  As a committee, our goal is to plan and facilitate a fun and successful event.

eSMART Core Team

The Core Team plans and implements the plans for the eSMART Summer Camp for Girls.  We currently 15 members.  If interested in volunteering to help with camp, we have many small and big jobs available from helping to gather supplies for the workshops to monitoring in classroom, depending on your interest and/or skills.

eSMART Fashion Show

Each year the eSMART Fashion Show committee plans and facilitates The Desert Blooms Luncheon and Fashion in the Spring to benefit eSMART Camp for girls.  This event features a delicious lunch, opportunity drawing, silent auction, live auction and Fashion Show.

Nominating Committee

DSC Campus Outreach

Our goal is to work with Dixie State College students and professors to create a mutually beneficial relationship where in DSC and AAUW partner to promote educational and career opportunities for women and girls in our area.

Communications/Publicity

The Communications/Publicity Committee creates and distributes Press Releases, Event Announcements and Articles to submit to Southern Utah media professionals to support membership and fundraising efforts for the branch and to create community awareness for our mission, goals and programs.

Uppity Women

Uppity Women is a monthly happy hour at Entrada Country Club.  The sole mission of this gathering is to build camaraderie and engage in general hilarity.  Join us for a drink and appetizer for a chance to get to know the AAUW sisterhood.  Official AAUW business, committee discussions, project assignments or anything resembling work is severely frowned upon.

Most months Uppity Women is on the third Thursday of the month.  Dates may vary, so check back often.

Uppity Women starts at 5:00 p.m. and lasts until we have had all the fun we can for one night!

Correspondence

The Correspondence committee is responsible for sending thoughtful communication to our members.  This includes Birthday Cards, Thank You Notes, Sympathy Cards, Wedding & Engagement Congratulations, Get Well Son, etc.   We also share pertinent information with our members via newsletter.

Archivist

This committee compiles and maintains historical records of our branch.

eSMART Camp Volunteers

This committee aides in the solicitation of volunteers to assist with the planning, preparation and set up of eSMART Camp as well as supporting the Camp sessions.  This committee also solicits and processes community donations for items needed during camp and for dorm room needs the campers may have.  The Volunteer Committee also facilitates the Pak N Sak event where all of the back packs for the campers are loaded and ready to be given out to the girls at registration.

Website Development

This committee creates and maintains website content.  The committee also acts as a liaison for the Board, Officers and Membership regarding website communication needs.

2014 State Convention Committee
